At its core, Flagship Training is a Mental Health & First Aid training company that is driven by wanting people to be able to help others and save lives. This is why we were keen to offer our help when we saw this post from a local charity
The Garden House is a project by charity The Light Project Peterborough. According to their website, their vision is “to reveal Jesus’ love by reaching out to and walking alongside the marginalised and those in need and by equipping and enabling those we meet to do the same. We do this by:
- Sharing our Christian faith, by meeting people wherever they are
- Co-operative social action and mission
- Providing shelter and support for the homeless
- Working in partnership with others
- Modelling a loving community where everyone is valued
- Communicating stories of good news”
The doors to The Garden House opened on 8th October 2018 when it was felt that there was a need to offer additional support to those they were able to help through the Peterborough Winter Night Shelter, as well as those they didn’t have room for on the project at that time.
For the first 6 months, 176 rough sleepers in Peterborough came through their doors for information, advice, support and love to help them create the future they dreamed of but, in recent months, felt was never possible. The Garden House is located in the Peterborough Cathedral precinct and this partnership has now enabled us to secure the site until March 2020.
The success of the project in the local community and the real change they have seen in people’s lives, The Garden House long term future is firmly on the table, with big dreams and plans for the future.
Supporting the Community
When we contacted The Garden House to let them know we’d be happy to offer them two seats on our 3 day First Aid at Work training course, they were delighted and we trained two of their volunteers, to help The Garden House become an even safer place to be for their service users.
Our First Aid at Work Courses are suitable for any organisation, big or small, that takes the safety and wellbeing of their staff and customers seriously. People from all industries and of all ages 18-70 have taken our course and the resounding feedback is that it was really useful, with vital training to help save lives and administer first aid in less life-threatening situations.
